138 attendees from 28 countries of Europe, North America and Asia took part in the Workshop of the UNECE Working Party on Land Administration, held in Sofia, Bulgaria on April 23-24, 2009. Ktimatologio S.A. was represented by Dr. Dimitris Rokos, Rural Surveying Engineer and Deputy Director of the Projects Department.

WPLA is one of the most important international organisations in the field of Cadastre, since it has developed a network of officials in issues of Cadastre and Land Administration both in Europe and North America. Its work both at holding international events and preparing editions / papers is also significant. WPLA mainly focuses in the “evaluation” of cadastres and real estate markets in developing countries in order to provide recommendations for their improvement. This workshop’s main subject was Bulgaria’s Cadastre and specifically, the digitisation of its records and its electronic operation, a project that has been recently completed with the co-financing of the World Bank.

Important news from the cadastral organisations of other European countries:

• The Dutch Cadastre reduced its personnel to half (from a total of 3,000 people down to approximately 1,500 people) because it further automated its procedures and it also provides electronic services.
• The Italian Cadastre developed a new service regarding the issuance of cadastral certificates in co-operation with the Italian Post Services. 
• In the United Kingdom, where a system with access levels to electronic cadastral data applies, special programmes are developed in order to secure the data and avoid cases of electronic fraud.
